Unboxing and Review of Creature Caster Boreal Treewalker

Hello everyone,

Today I am going to unbox and do an initial review of the Boreal Treewalker miniature from Creature Caster. About two weeks ago I placed my order with Creature Caster, I was initally only after their Emperor Dragon and Mountain Dragon but there was a preorder bundle deal for the Emperor Dragon and the Boreal Treewalker which effectively meant that I got the Boreal Treewalker for only 20 Aud (which is about 15 USD or 11 GBP).

Now my order arrived a week before I was expecting it and since I spent over 250 CAD shipping was free internationally. So a two week delivery time from Canada on free shipping is something anyone would be happy with.

The miniature arrived in its box as shown below:

The model is loosely packed inside a bubble wrap packet which does little to stop the individual bits from rubbing against one another and in the handling process fine bits can be damaged much like what you see below:

Now this wasnt too major of an issue since some superglue and activator fixed that up instantly but it does mean that should I ever want to use this component then there is a point of fragile failure which can easily snap again. Ultimately I think the packaging could be better given the price of the miniature but for a model this robust it isnt critical since everything else came entirely intact.

Packaging 6/10

Now once you pour all the components out it looks like this:

I must say I have heard that there were some issues with Creature Caster minis coming from their initial kickstart but honestly this miniature is what I would describe as "astounding" and "gorgeous"; the detail is crisp and clear there are little to no visible mould lines present anywhere on the miniature and the model itself gives off the impression quite clearly that it is a mighty tree herder made from wood.

The cast has no visible bubbles or mould slippages and ultimately seems to have come out clean, it is slightly "wet" from the mould release agent and will likely need a clean under some hot water before priming and painting but thats just standard for resin miniatures anyways.

To say that I am happy with this miniature is an understatement, I am honestly seriously considering making a new army just for this miniature to be the centre piece of. But enough talking you want to see the pictures so here they are:

Now there are a number of options handwise so you could ultimately customise him or even go to the extreme and magnetise his hands for swapping out as you see fit, the main torso and legs are invariable and so you cant really make two distinctly different minis with this kit if you were inclined to buy two but if you're happy with just two identical models with different hands then I would say go for it, personally for a second treewalker I would consider getting the creature caster treewalker (a female model that is different to the boreal treewalker) or the ultraforge female treewalker.

Reposibility 6/10

Now the model itself stands about 7 and half inches tall without its base and is about 8 inches tall mounted on its base, so he definitely fits the bill as a centrepiece miniature

Sculpt and cast 9/10

Now price wise the Boreal Treewalker currently costs 83 USD which works out to be 74 EUR, 65 GBP or 110 AUD. For a centre-piece miniature for an army this sounds about standard, leaning slightly towards the expensive side but I would counter that by saying that this guy is definitely worth it, especially if you can get it in a bundle with other creature caster minis to reduce the price.

Price 7/10

Summary:
Packaging 6/10
Reposibility 6/10
Sculpt and cast 9/10
Price 7/10

Final verdict 8/10

As stated previously the sculpt is superb and the cast itself is brilliant, with almost no visible mould lines or bubbles that you could sometimes get with a resin miniature. There is little cleaning up to be done besides the usual filling of assembly gaps with greenstuff and washing the miniature to get rid of the mould release agent. Ultimately I would say that this model is absolutely well worth the money if you are happy to spend a bit extra for a centrepiece miniature.
